Story: Sita & Rama
Rama & Sita after the Battle. Source: British Library |
Plot Summary
After an arduous battle with Ravana and his Rakshasas, Rama and Lankshana managed to kill Ravana and his son Indrajit. Rama and his army of monkey were victorious, and Vibhishana was placed as king of Lanka. After the battle, Rama and Sita were reunited. However, after fulfilling his duty as a man, Rama rejected Sita. Rama pretty much said that Sita had spent too much time with Ravana and she was not pure anymore. Rama said that he had avenged the insult to his family and himself, but Sita was stained by dwelling with another man. Sita said that she kept true to Rama and she was tested by fire. Brahma then revealed that Rama was Vishnu and Sita Lakshmi.
My thoughts
I feel like the epic was hyping up too much the love story between Rama and Sita, only for Rama to doubt and reject Sita at the end. I get that he had to fulfill his duty as a husband and avenge the kidnapping of Sita, but I thought the whole point of the war was for Sita and Rama to be reunited. Oh well, maybe I'll write up an alternative ending to the story.
