Feedback Strategies

Feedback for Learning

The article talks about the reasons why negative feedback is very hard to assimilate. It boils down to the fact most of us don't do a good job of delivering negative feedback.
Here are some tactics to help us deliver and receive negative feedback:
  • Trust that everyone is participating in good faith.
  • Deliver negative feedback openly and honestly.
  • Think about how feedback will ultimately lead to self-improvement.

How to Give Feedback

The article focus on process praise. It talks about how praising the process leads to a growth mindset, and how praising traits leads to a fixed mindset. In order to avoid just giving out praise and give good feedback, avoid using generic blanket statements; ask questions, be specific about what it is you talking about.

I really liked the strategist for dealing with negative feedback from the first article. I think that second article provides useful details about the difference between praise and feedback.

  1. Hello again, Kevin!

I personally didn't read either of these articles, but I like the things you wrote about them. Particularly, I find the process praise very insightful and think that it applies to my own academic experiences the most. In the music field, we are always learning and are always on a path. There is never a time where we think we've perfected our technique, and therefore we may only praise the process!
